Reggie Bush’s final game as a USC Trojan came on Jan. 4, 2006 in a 41-38 loss against Texas.

More than six years later, USC is still feeling the effects. Since leaving Southern California, Bush has both experienced triumph and defeat.

In 2006, Bush was the No. 2 overall selection to the New Orleans Saints.

A season later, he missed the last four games of the regular season with a partially torn ligament in his knee. In 2008, he tied an NFL record for the fastest time to 200 receptions.

The following season, the Saints won the Super Bowl.

And the Trojans?

The first three years, the Trojans showed they could still be among the elite programs.

They compiled a 43-9 record, including at least a share in three PAC-10 titles, wins two Rose Bowl Games and one in the Emerald Bowl.

The following year, changed as USC head coach Pete Carroll left the program to coach the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and the program began to feel the effects of Bush.

In June of 2010, the NCAA released that it had conducted a four-year investigation of the program and it imposed sanctions against the team, alluding to the university showing a “lack of institutional control”.

The sanctions originally included a two-year postseason ban, a loss of 30 scholarships over three years and vacation of all wins that Bush played in.

The following month, USC President Max Nikias said the school would remove all memorabilia that was created in Bush’s honor and that it would also return the school’s copy of Bush’s Heisman Memorial Trophy.

The sanctions would eventually lead to new head coach Lane Kiffin releasing offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson, from his scholarship.

Henderson, who was considered one of the top picks of his class by several recruiting services, transferred to the University of Miami.

On Monday, the BCS announced it would strip USC of its 2004 BCS National Championship.

So when will the program finally be able to move on?

It seems as if Bush is an ex-girlfriend that the Trojans can not get rid of it and he will haunt them forever.

Every time, the Trojans begin to move forward, more information is released about the controversy stemming from this incident.

What was once a football school known for its tremendous reputation and historic legacy, is now being known as “The school that Reggie Bush ‘Never Went To’ but ruined”.
