NRA: 100k new members, but foes claim to top that
The National Rifle Association claims to have gained 100,000
new members since the Dec. 14 assassinations at a Newtown, Conn.,
grammar school that renewed calls for curbs on assault rifles and
high-capacity magazines, and closure of the gun show loophole.
The NRA says they have grown from 4.1 million to 4.2 million
members, and seeks to swell its ranks to 5 million. The organization
has called for armed guards at all of the nation's schools, but has
rejected calls for curbing sales of assault rifles and limits on
ammunition clips.
But a new organization, backed by New York's billionaire Mayor
Michael Bloomberg, is asserting that it has gained 400,000 members.
Named Mayors Against Illegal Guns, the group has won support from 800
American mayors, including Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn.
The mayors' group has launched a TV ad campaign featuring the mother
of a 9-year-old girl killed in a Tucson shopping mall in 2011, one of
six persons (including a senior federal judge) killed as they waited for
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., to hold a constituent meeting.
Giffords was severely injured, injuries that forced her to leave
Congress.
Liberals are sick, tacky individuals who love to parade around victims after a tragedy and exploit their existence for anti-gun propaganda.
