Bitch Slap Felt Across America
For years, officials in New York City have been dragging their feet on the plans for Ground Zero. And the few decisions they HAVE made are questionable at best.
For example, earlier this month, community board members approved plans to build a 15-story complex called the Cordoba House. It's on the site of the old Burlington Coat Factory building near Ground Zero.
It would include a performance art center, a gym, a swimming pool and also a MOSQUE. And it's scheduled to open on September 11th, 2011 . . . the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. (???)
A group called the American Society for Muslim Advancement is behind the project. They say the complex would show that Muslims are helping to rebuild lower Manhattan. And it would, quote, "give voice to the silent majority of Muslims who suffer at the hands of extremists."
But according to one community board member, quote, "If the Japanese decided to open a cultural center across from Pearl Harbor, that would be insensitive. If the Germans opened a Bach choral society across from Auschwitz, even after all these years, that would be an insensitive setting.
