It's been 9 freaking years we've been pussy-footing around a Bin Laden capture...and finally we have a winner!
Gary Faulkner, 52, armed himself with a pistol, a dagger and a 40-inch sword claimed he was on a solo mission to kill Osama Bin Laden. He was arrested in Pakistan and told intelligence officers he intended to track down the fugitive Al Qaeda and decapitate him.
The Californian builder was picked up in a forest in the northern Chitral region late on Sunday.
'We initially laughed when he told us that he wanted to kill Osama bin Laden,' Officer Mumtaz Ahmad Khan said.
But he added that, when officers seized the pistol, the 40in sword and night vision equipment, 'our suspicion grew'.
Mr Khan said police had asked Faulkner why he believed he had a chance of tracing Bin Laden.
'He said "God is with me, and I am confident I will be successful in killing him,"' he added.
'(Faulkner) says he is a kidney patient,' Mr Khan added. 'He was also carrying medicines for kidney and blood pressure treatment.
'He claimed he had suffered personal losses in the terror attacks of September 11.'
He is now being questioned in Peshawar, the main norrth-western city.
Faulkner told police he had visited Pakistan seven times, and this was his third trip to the remote, mountainous region of Chitral.
Police believe the American intended to travel to the eastern Afghan region of Nuristan, just across the border from Chitral.
US Embassy spokesman Richard Snelsire said the mission had received notification from Pakistani officials that an American citizen had been arrested.
He said embassy officials were trying to meet the man and confirm his identity.
Chitral is among several rumoured hiding places for the the Al Qaeda leader, who has evaded a massive effort to capture him since 2001.
