Charges of aggravated assault are pending against a man who bit a police officer during a struggle at a north Houston apartment complex Sunday evening, authorities said.
Two Houston police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call around 6:45 p.m. at a residence in 11500 block of Green Plaza, where a woman told them her ex-boyfriend had been beating and threatening her, Houston Police Department spokesman Victor Senties said.
The woman then led officers to the parking lot, where they spotted the suspect sitting in a red pickup truck. The officers approached the vehicle and ordered the man to get out, but he drove off while the officers were still hanging onto the truck, Senties said.
A third officer arrived at the scene when the suspect stopped the vehicle a few feet away. He was then taken out of the truck, Senties said.
As officers attempted to take the man into custody, he allegedly bit one of the officer's fingers. Two of the officers used Tasers, Senties said
The officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital. He was expected to be released Sunday night. The suspect was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he will be treated and then taken to jail, Senties said.
Along with aggravated assault of a police officer, the man also faces charges of terroristic threat.
No further information was immediately available. The case is still under investigation
